Former Sky Sports broadcasters Eddie Hemmings and Mike Stephenson (Eddie and Stevo) have made their picks for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel and Super League Coach of the Year.
The former commentary pairing now have a weekly podcast together, and they have, with just a few weeks left of the season, suggested who should win the coveted awards.
Discussing who should win Coach of the Year, Eddie Hemmings said: “I wouldn’t quibble if Willie Peters at Hull Kingston Rovers, Adrian Lam or Paul Rowley came into the coach of the year reckoning and Sam Burgess I suppose has had an outstanding year too.
Willie Peters and Sam Burgess still have a chance of silverware this year, while Paul Rowley has done well with a tight budget and Adrian Lam is close to pulling off what seemed impossible just a couple of months ago: reaching the playoffs.
Stevo added: “Well, it’s going to be very, very difficult on that one, but I’d have to say that Willie Peters. I think Willie Peters has done a magnificent job at Hull KR.”
Eddie and Stevo agree on which Super League star should win Man of Steel
Eddie Hemmings also made his pick for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel: “My outstanding young player would be Junior Nsemba, what a player he is developing into and he’s only 20 years of age.
“Then the big one, Marc Sneyd, Matt Dufty, they were right up there when the voting went secret a few weeks back.
“Here’s one from left field for you, Stevo, Mikey Lewis, Man of Steel. What do you think?”
Stevo responded: “I think you’re pretty close. He’s been the star of the show. I’ve always thought that whoever’s been the star of the show throughout the season should get the top award.
“I think the influence of having one player on the field of play has been more effective to the Rovers than any other team and he is my choice. I can’t believe that you and I have actually picked out the same guy.”
If Hull KR can win a trophy this year, it will be certainly hard to argue against Mikey Lewis being a huge part of that.
