The 2024 Super League Dream Team has been announced with four Wigan Warriors players named.
The regular Super League season came to an end on Saturday afternoon with Wigan winning the League Leaders’ Shield and the make up of the top six being confirmed. As such, before the play-offs get underway, the Super League has chosen to announce the 13 players who have been selected in the 2024 Dream Team.
It’s no surprise to see Wigan players scattered throughout the line-up with Liam Marshall, Jake Wardle, Luke Thompson and Junior Nsemba included.
Marshall has been in sensational form this season with his performances on the left yielding a total of 27 tries. That’s six more than his closest rival in the try scoring charts Matty Ashton of Warrington Wolves, who managed 21 over the regular season, and Marshall will be hoping to continue his try scoring exploits in the play-offs with Wigan now just 80 minutes from a Grand Final.
Wardle, who is the only member of the 2023 line-up to retain his spot, has been equally as impressive at centre for the Cherry and Whites, with nine tries and 15 assists coming on the left edge.
Thompson gets the nod for his performances through the middle for Wigan following his return to Super League from the NRL. While Junior Nsemba is also included after his remarkable campaign in the Warriors’ back-row.
Matt Dufty, perhaps, unsurprisingly is selected at full-back, with the Warrington Wolves man recording 17 tries and 19 assists in primrose and blue. The number one also managed 458 carries over the course of the campaign, with just two players achieving a higher tally.
Dufty, who is in the Man of Steel conversation too, is one of two Warrington players, with Ashton joining him, while Danny Walker is selected, too.
Hull KR finished second in the Super League table and they have two representatives in the side with Mikey Lewis and Elliot Minchella selected. Lewis is a contender for the Man of Steel award and probably just pips Bevan French who is not included at all.
Salford Red Devils man Marc Sneyd is also in the running for the Man of Steel gong and he gets the nod alongside his teammate Nene Macdonald.
Elsewhere, Leeds Rhinos’ Rhyse Martin features in the back-row despite missing out on the play-offs, while St Helens man Matty Lees is also named for his strong performances in the front-row.
The Dream Team members will be represented with their shirts on Monday by Paul Sculthorpe.
