Summer Bash cancelled

14th March 2020, DCBL Stadium, Widnes, England; Coral Challenge Cup Round 5, Widnes Vikings v Swinton Lions : Lewis Hatton (10) of Swinton Lions goes over for a try

The RFL have announced this year’s Summer Bash has had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The sport is currently suspended, and has been for the last month and the UK is currently on lockdown as it looks to slow the spread of the virus.

It was decided that there was “no realistic prospect of staging the event this year”. Both the governing body and the clubs came to this consensus.

They say it was announced now for the clarity of clubs, players, supporters and other stakeholders.

They also add: “The concept of a round of fixtures being played at a single venue at some stage in 2020- whether in the Championship and/or League One, or the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup- remains one of the possibilities in the wide variety of options in the contingency planning being considered by the RFL and the clubs.”

Anybody who has purchased a ticket will be able to purchase either a full refund, or will be entitled to a credit for a ticket for a match at the 2021 World Cup.
