Stuart Fielden reveals who he thinks was better out of Kevin Sinfield, Sean O’Loughlin and Paul Sculthorpe

Out of every position in Super League history, loose-forward is perhaps the the spot most laden with legends.

Last night, that was again shown as the official Super League Twitter page sparked debate with a question about some of the best players in this position.

They asked fans to start one of, bench one of and cut one of St Helens legend Paul Sculthorpe, Wigan Warriors legend Sean O’Loughlin and Super League’s most successful skipper Kevin Sinfield who admittedly played a lot of his best rugby not at 13 but rather in the halves.

There was no conclusive winner but Stuart Fielden, formerly of the Bradford Bulls and Wigan Warriors and a Grand Final winner against the likes of Sinfield and O’Loughlin but never against Sculthorpe, weighed in on the debate himself.

Fielden may have only shared a club with O’Loughlin, but he played with all three for England and Great Britain and in his mind he would cut Kevin Sinfield using the line “I played with all three” as his simple justification for his verdict on the matter.

It is also interesting to note that Andy Farrell wasn’t included in the debate as he often is as one of the best loose-forwards in rugby league history.

All four are superb players and enjoyed trophy laden careers, but when it comes to deciding who is the best, it is an extremely hard task.
