Storm Eunice: which fixtures have been called off this weekend including Super League updates

Wigan Warriors have confirmed that their fixture against Leeds Rhinos will take place tonight.

However, Rhinos’ reserves game against Newcastle Thunder – which was scheduled for Stanningley today – has been called off to due a waterlogged pitch.

Batley Bulldogs’ Championship fixture against Sheffield Eagles, scheduled for Fox’s Biscuits Stadium, Mount Pleasant, on Sunday, was postponed following a lunchtime pitch inspection today whilst Castleford Tigers’ reserve fixture against Wakefield Trinity has also been called off.

A Wigan club statement said: “We can confirm that tonight’s game at the DW Stadium between Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos is still on.

“An amber weather warning has been issued for strong winds across the North West, including Wigan Borough, but the game remains on.

“We advise all fans to travel carefully and arrive to the ground early as queues are expected around the DW Stadium.”

The Oldham Weather Twitter page – who is a columnist that works for the Oldham Chronicle newspaper in the North East – tweeted: “⚠️ FRIDAY – one to watch for sure!

“#StormEunice’s actual track is still uncertain but the potential is there for some damaging winds. Yellow warning in place across the entire region which might be upgraded.

“Heavy rain followed by wintry showers. Risk of hill-snow. Cold. 6°C.”
