Stevo’s surprise pick for England “star” player

Preparations for the 2025 World Cup have already begun.

As Shaun Wane and his England side look ahead to the tournament in France, their next step will see them take on Tonga as Wane continues to develop his squad.

One position which will be interesting to track is the number nine spot.

Danny Walker has been in superb form to start the season and he received a deserved call up and scored on his England debut against France last week.

Somewhat surprisingly, despite hat-tricks from his Warrington Wolves teammate George Williams and Leeds Rhinos star Ash Handley whilst Shaun Wane said Matty Ashton was his man of the match, former Sky Sports commentator has said that Walker was England’s best player against France.

“The new captain was outstanding as he has been all season. Warrington have got probably the best payer in Super League at this point in time,” Stevo said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.

“A lot of people were saying ‘who do you think was a star?’

“I’ll tell you who my star was and it was the hooker Danny Walker.

“He created more chances in that game than what we saw from the hookers in the World Cup and that’s what we need.

“We need someone who can go forward from dummy-half because we didn’t have that in the World Cup and that was probably one of our negatives.

“But Walker absolutely stunned everybody. He’s got to be selected on a full-time basis all the way up to the World Cup, he was outstanding!”
