Stevo’s bold Man of Steel prediction

Former Sky Sports commentator Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson has picked out the player he thinks could win the Man of Steel Award in 2023.

Right now Hull KR’s Jordan Abdull leads the Man of Steel ladder after four games with nine points with Aidan Sezer of Leeds Rhinos forcing his way into the top three with five points in the last two games.

But it is second place George Williams who Stevo believes could win the Man of Steel in 2023.

Williams, like his side Warrington Wolves, had a tough Super League season in 2022 but we saw what Williams can do when he played for England in the World Cup.

Now Williams is taking that World Cup form into Super League and Stevo would be happy to bet on him winning the Man of Steel as he said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.

He said: “A lot of people raised their eyebrows when he was selected for England in last year’s World Cup and I think at that tournament he was outstanding.

“I thought he was one of the best players throughout the entire tournament and it has turned his future around after playing very well down in Australia.

“He became a very very big hit at Canberra and sometimes it takes a little bit to get into the swing of things, but he is the man and if I had a bob to spare I would be putting a few shillings on George Williams for being Man of Steel at the end of the season.

“He is in top form, it was one of the best individual performances I’ve seen, both at the World Cup and in this win for Warrington.”
