Stevo says is Super League goes to NRL it is “down to one thing”

There is a suggestion that Lewis Dodd will head to the NRL at the end of his current contract after catching the eye with a vital drop goal for St Helens that won the World Club Challenge against NRL Champions Penrith Panthers.

The main interest has come from the Wests Tigers.

Now former Sky Sports commentator Stevo has said there is only one thing a move to the NRL’s bottom.

He said on Eddie and Stevo podcast: “Well they haven’t won a game and they’re bottom of the league, that could be the reason. Take your Einstein’s cap off and just get yourself under the situation, why would you want to go to the bottom of the table? And then I think to myself that’s what I did in 1973, Penrith Panthers were the wooden spooners and I signed to go there.

“It’s all down to one thing, money! You don’t get many opportunities in life, you don’t get many opportunities in rugby league. If someone’s going to throw that cheque at you then you’re going to take it. Why not?

“The lure of going there, we were talking earlier about a player who is on nearly half a million [Luke Thompson] wanting to come back to the UK. I can’t find any team that is going to pay that amount of money, but he wants to come back to play rugby league because he’s not getting the opportunity down there.

“Not everyone that goes down to Australia is always a success but sometimes they pay a lot of money for being unsuccessful.”
