Stevo names his ‘clear favourite’ to win the Man of Steel award

With the Super League season now past its midpoint, a clear picture of the front runners for the prestigious Man of Steel award is beginning to emerge.

Liam Marshall is the division’s top try scorer, with 11 tries, five clear of his nearest rivals. Niall Evalds tops the try assist charts, with 16, level with teammate, Mikey Lewis.

However, neither man features at the top of the Man of Steel points table. Lewis is a close contender, currently sitting in third place, behind Matt Moylan and leader, Marc Sneyd. Syend’s Salford Red Devils teammate, Nene Macdonald, sits in fourth place, ahead of Warrington Wolves’ Matt Dufty in fifth.

Now, legendary Rugby League pundit, Mike Stephenson, aka Stevo, has picked his clear favourite for the end-of-season award.

Discussing the front-runner for the Man of Steel award, the former Sky Sports pundit singled out Marc Sneyd for praise. Speaking on the Eddie and Steve Podcast, Stevo stated that he believed Marc Sneyd was the clear favourite for the award.

Stevo highlighted Sneyd’s intelligent kick selection as a crucial weapon in his armory, particularly his use of grubber kicks. Stevo stated:

“Well, I reckon he’s got to be a clear favourite, in regards to the way that he plays. Look, his kicking game is nothing short of superb. He knows how to turn a team around.

“Instead of… it reminds me of an old-fashioned style kicker Eddie, instead of just opting for the high bomb all the time into the corners, et cetera and so forth, he realizes that field position is important.

“So he does more grubber kicks than any other any other player in Super League and, in doing that, turns the team around.

“They have a defensive pattern that is difficult for the opposition to get out of their own quarter. Now that shows in your brains. It was, it was miles in front on that game because of his control in that match.”
