Stevo has surprising say on Gil Dudson ban

Many were shocked when Warrington Wolves’ Gil Dudson, against his former club the Catalans Dragons, punched Tom Johnstone whilst the winger was on the ground.

It was likened by some to Ben Flower’s infamous red card in the 2014 Grand Final so most were surprised when he only received a five game ban last week and former Sky Sports commentator Stevo believes he should have got more but in comparison to Morgan Knowles, who also received a five match ban for a hip drop tackle that ended Mike Cooper’s season, it isn’t as bad.

“Well I think he’s lucky he only got five,” he said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.

“There again though when we sit down and say is that fair, it’s five matches suspended for a player being out for the season yet Dudson gets five matches. A lot of fans will say alright he punched him, but is that as bad as making a player be out for the rest of the season?

“Maybe we should look at that as well. Look emotions run high when you’re playing at that level and he’s just lost the plot, it’s as simple as that.

“Is a punch to a player on the ground the same as someone who puts a player out for the rest of the season?”

    Talk about missing the plot!
Gil Dudson’s punch was a straightforward act of thuggery.
Morgan Knowles could replicate the tackle on Mike Cooper 20 times and cause no damage.
