Leigh Leopards aren’t just in Super League to make up the numbers.
That has been clear since their host of signings prior to the new season but now it is becoming even more concrete.
The Leopards have beaten Hull KR and Champions St Helens in consecutive weeks but even that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Derek Beaumont is striving to do at the club.
They have had some amazing entertainment at their two home games to start the season and this has really impressed former Sky Sports commentator Eddie Hemmings who said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast:
“Leigh are doing an awful lot to try and get people through the gate, they’ve had Michael Smith the world darts champions coming to the game and they’ve also had T’Pau playing the pre-match entertainment.
“Derek Beaumont this year is really pushing the boat out at the Leigh Sports Village so fingers crossed he deserved a good crowd.”
His old partner in crime then echoed this opinion saying that Beaumont deserves success: “He deserves it, he’s pumped in millions to that club and there’s not many people in the world that have the faith to be relegated and fight to come back.
“David Hughes, he did exactly the same thing and still supports London Broncos but to find a person like Hughes and Beaumont, they’re like gold dust.
“They are the type of people that we need to make sure that our game of rugby league not only expands, but also the highlight of crowds getting into packed stadiums.”
