Stevo claims Super League side plays the game like it’s still the 80s

Former Sky Sports commentator Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson is in awe of one Super League side and the way they play.

He has likened Hull KR, who have recently dropped out of the play-off spots after a terrific start to the season, to the teams in the 1980s and 1990s and says he loves watching them.

He said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast: “I’ll tell you what is the best advert for the game, Hull Kingston Rovers and the style of play has brought back memories of down in the ’80s and ’90s.

“Offloading, runs around, different angles on the attack. I was mesmerised and thinking I’m watching a game of 20-odd years ago.

“Instead of just five drives and a kick, they’ve got their players turning in the tackle and offloading. It was a complete pleasure to watch, a great game.

“The new coach has brought, instead of the biff that everyone seems to want, but brought that style of rugby and it’ll pack the grounds because it was outstanding.”

“Anybody that has not seen them this season. Watch them! It’s just opened up a whole new arena for me, I’m over the moon!”
