Stevo claims Super League club could be left in “unfair” position by IMG

It is clear Wakefield Trinity need a win and they need a win soon and at home against Leigh Leopards on Sunday is an opportunity they need to take.

However, they aren’t fancied by most and former Sky Sports commentator Stevo believes they are doomed and that they could be the last side relegated because of IMG’s changes.

“I think they are doomed. It’s sad but there’s a lot of things going on and we have to go back to IMG again, because maybe IMG have come up with something because I feel that what they want is to get rid of relegation and promotion.

“It would be sad to see Wakefield go and be relegated and yet the following year they’ll probably say ‘we’ve got to go by this system that IMG have brought out’. I say that it could be the fact that Wakefield could be the last team to be relegated.

“Now I’m not saying that IMG are going to say that we won’t have relegation and if anybody wants to improve and come into Super League, then they’ve got to make sure they’ve got the finance there, they’ve got the players there etc and so forth.”

This comes as he calls for IMG to copy the NRL and suggests that it could be unfair otherwise:

“Copy what has happened in Australia. It’s not hard to look and see how successful it is down under.

“This could be the last time that we have relegation and promotion so maybe it’s unfair I don’t know. As far as I am concerned come in and just get rid of relegation then that suits me fine, because I know how successful it is down under.”
