Steve Price explains Daryl Clark’s injury as well as detailing the family reasons behind George Williams almost missing out

It was a happy birthday indeed for Warrington boss Steve Price as his side overcame a stubborn Wigan side, 10-6, without a point being scored in the second-half.

Price enthused about getting the win but knew there would be an element of fatigue to his side’s play.

It was a tough win to keep Wigan to six points was. a great result for us,” Price said.

“It was our third game in 11 days which showed as it was a bruising encounter last week and it was another big one tonight.

“I’m just pleased with the resilience by the boys.”

Unfortunately for Warrington, Price’s men were going down like flies and the 41-year-old saw four of his chargers suffer.

“Josh Charnley got a head knock with Sam Powell and Joe Philbin got a knee injury.

“Danny Walker went down with an ankle injury and Daryl Clark has an injury to his upper body so we’ve got a few wounded bodies.”

Price confirmed – in his post-match press conference – that George Williams almost didn’t play due to family reasons, but the Australian praised his contribution.

“Him (Williams) and Gaz (Widdop) controlled the game reasonably well, but we need to get better in certain aspects of our offence.

“It’s the third game in 11 days and they’re only going to get better together.

‘He’s a strong defender, he’s played in big games and won big games and what it looks like and knows what it takes.

“He’s the ultimate professional, he’s really diligent in his training and he will only get better with each passing game

“George’s partner is close to giving birth so he was on standby for that.”
