Steve McNamara opens up on Catalans Dragons’ “disadvantage” in Super League

Steve McNamara has confirmed that Catalans Dragons are unlikely to meet Toulouse Olympique in a pre-season friendly due to complications pertaining to when their season starts.

He also opened up on the Dragons’ “disadvantage” going into 2023.

“Yes, we will play only one and probably against France B. It will be difficult to face Toulouse, who resume their championship two weeks earlier than us. But, hopefully we can do an opposition session against them and the reserve team in training, as we have already done,” McNamara said to L’Independant.

“We accept the situation. It is a disadvantage on the one hand, but it is an advantage on the other. We spent time on individual details that we wouldn’t have done if we had had everyone.”

Catalans Dragons will host a selection of the best players of the French Elite Championship in a pre-season friendly before the launch of the 2023 Betfred Super League Season.

The game will be played on Saturday 4th February at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium (k.o time to be confirmed).

The Dragons will start the Betfred Super League season on Friday 17th February at Wakefield.

The Dragons are hoping to climb back up the table after finishing top in 2021 before slipping back to fourth in 2022.
