Steve McNamara laments ‘horrible injury’ with Catalans Dragons man’s ear ‘hanging off’

Catalans Dragons went down 36-10 to Warrington Wolves this afternoon at game two in the Magic Weekend.

The Wolves went into this fixture as heavy underdogs given their recent disappointing results, but they were in inspired form – led from the front by the likes of Thomas Mikaele and in the backs by George Williams and Stefan Ratchford – and put French side Catalans to the sword in emphatic fashion.

For Dragons head coach Steve McNamara it was an incredibly disappointing showing following the superb comeback win against St Helens at last year’s event at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.

McNamara said: “We’ve got to perform better than that when we are understrength.

“I don’t think you can put it on one area and I think our attack was poor today.”

The Catalans boss did, however, lament a horrific injury to his captain, Ben Garcia.

“He’s got a horrible injury, his ear is nearly off and he’s going to get it stitched up tonight.”

That result, however, means Catalans stay in fourth in the Super League table as Warrington move up to ninth, just four points off the play-offs.
