Steve McNamara explains why Catalans Dragons lost to Leeds Rhinos

Catalans Dragons looked headed for a sixth win from six to start the season when they led 22-8 at the break but Leeds Rhinos produced one of the halves of the season to battle to a 32-22 win over the Dragons.

Speaking after the game, Dragons boss Steve McNamara explained why his side came up short:

“We were clearly the second best team in the second half. We lost the momentum of the game, Leeds sped things up and exposed us and did a good job of it.

“Possibly we could have been further up, when we lost momentum we stopped attacking a bit.

“We were clearly disappointed to that and losing that game.”

he also spoke about the players they lost to injury:

“Losing players doesn’t help but that’s the sport and players go through that. We lost three there that couldn’t come back but it is no excuse, it is part of the game, we’ve been sat here in previous weeks when things have gone are way and we need to roll with it.

“Tyrone’s looks pretty bad yeah. We have him in a boot now and we want to get him back to France and take it from there.

“He is a really good player, he has been really good for us this year.

“Goudemand was a concussion, he was only out there a few minutes. He missed that game and next week and there was Ben Garcia as well.

“It’s not the reason why we lost the game.”
