Ratchford replaces Widdop in England squad

Stefan Ratchford banned

Warrington Wolves’ utility back Stefan Ratchford has replaced Gareth Widdop in England’s 20-man squad to take on Samoa next week.

Widdop has been ruled out for six weeks after injuring his knee ligaments in St George Illawarra’s match against Sydney Roosters on Tuesday.

Ratchford, who has been on the brink of the England starting team for a number of years, joins fellow Warrington player Chris Hill for the match in Campbelltown on May 6.

The 28-year-old spent the early part of this season injured but has since returned to help the Wolves move up the Super League table.

Ratchford has previously only played once for England last year but did score three tries in two games for the England Knights five years ago.
