Statement of support issued after fan collapsed at Championship clash

Last night was the unofficial start of the Magic Weekend in Newcastle.

Today we see the official start as all 12 Super League clubs battle it out at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.

However, last night saw the now traditional clash between Newcastle Thunder and Bradford Bulls in the Championship.

Bradford came away with the spoils but the game was overshadowed by a fan collapsing.

Thunder have now released a statement confirming the fan is okay.

They said:

“All at Newcastle Thunder would like to send their best wishes to the spectator who collapsed after last night’s fixture. He was given quick first aid and care by other spectators as well medical staff from both Newcastle & Bradford before being taken to hospital.

“We’re delighted to say we’ve been in touch with the spectator, who upon assessment at Newcastle’s RVI has been discharged both fit and well. The club has made arrangements with him to ensure he can safely return back to Bradford today.

“We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that assisted in the situation including fellow supporters and both sides’ medical teams, who handled it exceptionally. We’d also like to thank the paramedics who attended the scene and all those at Newcastle’s RVI.

“It’s great news to hear the supporter can return home and we hope he can enjoy many more rugby league games in the future.”
