Star breaks leg in horror tackle

Wests Tigers’ Daine Laurie has broken his leg in Wests’ narrow 18-16 loss to New Zealand Warriors.

Laurie was bent in a three-man tackle in just the second minute of the game, but Wests boss Michael Maguire refused to blame that for his side’s defeat.

“Moses went back and in the first half we showed what we were capable of doing. We put on some simple tries and we built the pressure, which is what rugby league is all about,” Maguire said.

Though Wests had to play 78 minutes with 16 men, they came so close to propelling their play-off hunt, but they are now two points adrift of their rivals.

Scans on Saturday will determine if Laurie’s season is over.

“He’ll have to go to hospital and get [the leg] looked at. I haven’t spoken to the doctor, but there’s a bit of work to do there,” Maguire said.
