Staggering viewing figures revealed for Premier Sports clash between Featherstone Rovers and Leigh Centurions

Featherstone Rovers and Leigh Centurions did battle last night in what many dubbed as one of the key fixtures in the Championship in 2022.

No wonder, then, that the viewing figures – both on and off the field – were incredibly impressive.

Over 4,500 turned up at the Millennium Stadium on a Monday night in freezing cold and rainy conditions – when the game was also televised – whilst the viewing figures at home were superb too.

There was, according to League Express editor Martyn Sadler, an average audience of 75,100 and a peak audience of 90,000 which meant that it was the largest audience on any UK TV Sports Channel yesterday.

Leigh were, ultimately, outclassed by their opponents who thrived despite the boggy, awful conditions.

Rovers ran out 28-6 winners after going into a 16-0 lead at the break, with tries from Luke Briscoe, Morgan Smith, Craig Hall, John Davies and Brandon Pickersgill proving Featherstone’s authority over Leigh who only crossed once through Nene MacDonald.

It meant that Rovers have now won two from two games in the opening rounds of the Championship season whilst Leigh have a 50% record.
