St Helens vs Salford Red Devils team news with two doubts and 10 ruled out

St Helens take on Salford Red Devils this evening as the two clubs jostle for position in the Super League play-off picture. The Saints managed to stop the rot last time out as they ended a run of five straight defeats by beating Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.

That result allows them to breathe a little easier in the top six and they’ll be looking to build on that on Thursday night when they take on Salford. Paul Rowley’s side currently sit two points above the Saints having seen off Leeds Rhinos last time out and with seven games to go they look assured of their play-off berth.

They can move level on points with Warrington Wolves should they pick up the win at the Totally Wicked Stadium, though, and given the season they’re having, it wouldn’t come as a shock. Here’s a look at the team news heading into tonight’s game.

St Helens team news

Paul Wellens has been able to name Alex Walmsley in his squad for the first time since April this week, with the prop returning earlier than expected after knee surgery. Of course, it remains to be seen if he will play, but if he does Walmsley will be keen to make a big impact as he looks to end the campaign on a high.

Mark Percival has also been included after serving a one-match ban and should be fit enough to play a part. Jack Welsby (hamstring), Jake Wingfield (shoulder), Konrad Hurrell (neck), George Delaney (knee) and Sione Mata’utia (neck) won’t be involved against the Red Devils, though, while Jonny Lomax is still suspended.

Salford Red Devils team news

Rowley has made just one enforced change to his 21-man squad this week with Cade Cust coming in for Tim Lafai, who was handed a one-match ban earlier this week. Lafai’s absence will be felt, but it’s an opportunity for others to make their mark.

Other than Lafai, Salford continue to be with Jack Ormondroyd, Ben Hellewell and Matty Foster.
