Sam Burgess has been boosted by the return of five Warrington Wolves players from injury ahead of Friday’s clash at St Helens. Warrington make the journey to the Totally Wicked Stadium with something of a point to prove after losing their last two Super League games against Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity.
Serious questions have been asked of the Wolves as a result, but they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways in the league this week against a St Helens side that has struggled in the big games over the last 12 months.
As such, the returns of Matty Ashton, Matt Dufty, Toby King, Arron Lindop and Lachlan Fitzgibbon from minor injuries come as a huge boost for Burgess, with Warrington expected to have at least something close to their preferred back line available.
Burgess will almost certainly hand Marc Sneyd a debut, too, after the scrum-half’s switch from Salford Red Devils was completed last week. The half-back will almost certainly start in the pivots alongside George Williams and he’ll be keen to make an immediate impact with his new club.
St Helens boss Paul Wellens has been able to name Mark Percival in the side, despite seeing him limp out of the action last week with an ankle injury. However, there’s no Kyle Feldt, who will miss a chunk of the season with a hand problem, while Joe Batchelor has been ruled out after failing a head injury assessment last week.
Jake Burns is the other man to drop out with Ben Davies, George Whitby and Dayon Sambou all stepping into the fold.
