St Helens v Wakefield Trinity team news as star backs return but Saints lose England international

St Helens host Wakefield Trinity on Friday night in Super League and the 21-man squads for both sides have been confirmed.

The reverse of this fixture was played in Round Two with St Helens coming out on top in a 26-6 win, however, Wakefield have yet to win at home this year, whilst their away record stands at a flawless four wins from four.

Both teams enter this game after exiting the Challenge Cup, both losing their quarter-finals 20-12 in games that were far tighter than the scoreboard suggested. For Wakefield, errors cost them against Leigh Leopards, whereas for Saints, it was the magic of George Williams that proved the difference.

St Helens have been made keen favourites by the bookmakers but Paul Wellens will be without a number of key players with two men failing HIAs in the Challenge Cup defeat to Warrington Wolves. As for Wakefield, they also lost two men to broken bones in their loss to Leigh meaning there could be key changes made.

The 21-man squads for both teams have now been confirmed.

St Helens team news

For St Helens, it is only a 20-man squad and a number of changes have been made from the 21-man squad named for last week’s Challenge Cup tie. Both Mark Percival and Jake Wingfield drop out after failing HIAs, whilst Daryl Clark and Ben Davies also drop out.

Losing starting centre Percival and the likes of Davies who can play the role is a major blow but it is softened somewhat by the return of Harry Robertson, who had been sidelined himself with a HIA.

There is also another outside back to return with winger Lewis Murphy named in the squad after missing out since Round One when he picked up a hamstring injury against Salford. Young hooker Jake Burns is the man to replace Daryl Clark.
