St Helens v Leigh: 21-man squads and injury update

Champions St Helens host Leigh on Thursday night on the back of their derby win over Wigan. But if they’re going to claim back-to-back wins, they’ll have to beat a Leigh side fresh off the back of their first win of the season.

The Saints kept Wigan tryless last time out whilst scoring an impressive 26 points against their biggest rivals. Thus, the Champions will carry a lot of confidence into this clash as they look to keep the pressure up on Catalans in top spot.

As for the Centurions, they deservedly claimed their first win of the season last week against Salford and will be hoping to give it a real good go against the Saints on Thursday.

The game kicks off at 19:45.

St Helens

The Saints make two changes to their squad with Mark Percival dropping out alongside the suspended James Bentley. In their place, come in Ben Davies as well as promising hooker Josh Eaves who oddly returns to St Helens after a loan spell with opponents Leigh. The Champions will also be without key player Tommy Makinson as he completes his two match suspension.

21-man squad: 1 Lachlan Coote, 3 Kevin Naiqama, 5 Regan Grace, 6 Jonny Lomax, 8 Alex Walmsley, 9 James Roby, 10 Matty Lees, 11 Joel Thompson, 13 Morgan Knowles, 14 Sione Mata’utia, 15 Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 16 Kyle Amor, 17 Agnatius Paasi, 18 Jack Welsby, 19 Aaron Smith, 20 Joe Batchelor, 21 Lewis Dodd, 22 Josh Simm, 23 Jake Wingfield, 24 Josh Eaves, 29 Ben Davies.

Leigh Centurions

The Centurions can only name a 19-man squad for the game and are without 10 players including key forwards Ben Flower and Mark Ioane. Nonetheless, Sam Stone is set to make his second appearance in a Leigh shirt having made his debut in last weekend’s win. There’s also a huge boost with the return of Ryan Brierley from his eye injury whilst Junior Sa’u returns after missing the Salford win.

19-man squad: 1 Ryan Brierley, 2 Matty Russell, 4 Junior Sa’u, 7 Joe Mellor, 9 Liam Hood, 11 Ben Hellewell, 12 Jordan Thompson, 13 James Bell, 15 Alex Gerrard, 17 Jamie Ellis, 18 Matty Gee, 20 Adam Sidlow, 22 Craig Mullen, 24 Keanan Brand, 25 Brendan Elliot, 33 Rob Butler, 34 Jack Ashworth, 35 Jack Logan, 36 Sam Stone.
