St Helens v Huddersfield Giants teams as Jack Welsby role confirmed

St Helens

St Helens boss Paul Wellens has made three changes to his line-up to take on Huddersfield Giants this afternoon. The Saints have the opportunity to move to within two points of second placed Wigan Warriors and leapfrog Leigh Leopards this afternoon.

A result would also see St Helens approach the final five games of the season on the back of three successive wins, making them one of the most in-form teams in the division. Huddersfield will be no pushovers, though, despite having very little to play for in the grand scheme of things.

The Giants are 10th and firmly out of the race for the play-offs, but they’ve won their last two and travel to Merseyside with wind in their sails. Luke Robinson has had the luxury of being able to name an unchanged side this weekend and that means Kieran Rush and Matt Frawley partner each other in the halves, while Fenton Rogers gets the nod in the pack.

The big team news comes from the St Helens camp, though, with Jack Welsby returning to the fold after injury. The full-back is named on the bench to start with, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him step into the halves as the game progresses with Moses Mbye expected to move into hooker at some point and give Daryl Clark a rest.

Hull FC bound duo James Bell and Joe Batchelor also return from injury with the pair handily returning in time to replace the injured Curtis Sironen and Jake Wingfield in the pack.

Jake Burns is the other man to drop out of the 17 this week to make way for Welsby.
