St Helens tie down young quartet

St Helens have re-signed young quartet Josh Eaves (above), Nico Rizzelli, Tom Nisbet and Sam Royle to one-year contract extensions.

Eaves, 23, made his Saints debut against London last season and also featured against Salford earlier this year, scoring his first try for the club.

Rizzelli, 20, and Nisbet, 21, made their debuts in the clash against the Red Devils and will look to compete for spots in the outside backs in 2021.

Back rower Royle, 20, is the only one of the four yet to feature for the first team but has been a standout player for the academy and scholarship sides, being named Academy Player of the Year in 2019.

St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf said: “It has been a tough year for these men. They have trained with us all year and been a big part of our preparation and success you see on Friday night.

“Some of these blokes have played one game all year since March which is tough, but they have helped us get that success so this is a reward for their attitude and work ethic they have shown and the qualities they have shown all year in tough circumstances.”

“They have shown they are ready and we are looking forward to those blokes progressing into playing into some more first grade for us next year.”
