St Helens tie down playmaker to new deal in latest retention decision

St Helens

Hooker Jake Burns has committed his future to St Helens by signing a new long-term contract with the club.

Burns has agreed a new two-year deal with the club and that ensures he will be with the Saints until the end of the 2027 Super League season.

The 25-year-old joined the Saints in 2022 on an initial trial and managed to make his first-team debut two seasons later, with Paul Wellens giving him the nod for the first time in July 2024.

Since then he has made 20 appearances for the club with five tries coming along the way including braces against Hull FC and Salford Red Devils.

As such, while Burns isn’t a youngster, the number nine is highly thought of at St Helens and he’ll be looking to take the next step in his career under the tutelage of new Saints boss Paul Rowley.

Jake Burns pens new St Helens deal

“I’m thankful for every opportunity I get to play for St Helens,” Burns told the club website. ” Hopefully, I can keep building on the past two years and do well for the club in the next two.

“I’m very competitive. I just want to win in whatever game it is, and I’ll be looking to do that and put my best foot forward.

“I’ve learned a lot from Daz [Daryl Clark] and Mo [Moses Mbye], and now I want to put it more into practice next season.

“My goal is just to play as many games as possible and build on my experience. I want to get consistent game time and keep improving.

“I definitely think we can build on this year, too. We reached the semi-final, but I know the team we’ve got can go even further.”
