St Helens tie down homegrown talent to extended deal after impressive Super League performances

Ahead of the club’s tie with York Knights this evening, St Helens have announced a fresh new contract for one of their promising players.

After the news broke earlier this week that veteran Alex Walmsley would be sticking around for another season, a second player has put pen to paper on extended terms.

Jake Davies, who has scored tries in three consecutive games for the Red Vee, will be staying at the club until 2028, after agreeing a two year deal.

The Halton Farnworth Hornets junior made his Saints debut in 2025, featuring off the bench in a 26-24 win over Castleford Tigers.

This season has seen him go from strength to strength, and with injuries decimating Saints’ back row options, the 19-year-old has stepped up brilliantly and has already established himself as someone who deserves a spot in the first team.

St Helens youngster lands deserved contract extension

Commenting on his new deal, the young back rower said: “I’m excited for the future and excited to get it done as early as possible and then focus on my rugby for the rest of the year.

“I’ve been given a lot more game time than I might have expected at the start of the year, but as long as I’m playing, I’m happy, whether it’s for the reserves or on loan.

“”I have to stay hard-working, diligent, and you will get there in the end if you deserve it. That’s kind of what I’ve been telling myself and pushing myself to do since joining the club.”

Head coach, Paul Rowley, added: “It’s fantastic news for the club that another young man has come through our development conveyor belt, and that the environment has been good to him. So, I am delighted with the news that Jake has agreed to a contract extension with us.

“I’ve found Jake really receptive, willing to learn, and he is a very chilled individual, so it’s been very enjoyable to work with him. He has a lot of potential, and he knows what his challenges are, but at such a young age he has a lot to look forward to.”
