St Helens team news as Nene MacDonald call made and Wakefield Trinity lose star winger

St Helens and Wakefield Trinity have named their sides for this evening’s mouth-watering Super League clash as 2nd takes on 3rd in the table.

Both sides have made big selection calls, with the Red Vee opting not to risk Nene MacDonald after he was included in the 21-man squad for the first time in six weeks.

MacDonald was said to be “another week away” by Rowley earlier in the week, but whilst the PNG international doesn’t return, there is a comeback for another playmaker.

Jonny Lomax is named for the first timie since dislocating his wrist in round two, and he will line up in the halves alongside Jackson Hastings.

The veteran’s inclusion means that George Whitby drops down to the bench and Tom Humphreys, who made his debut last week against Hull FC, goes down to 18th man.

Deon Cross misses out after failing a HIA last week, which means Matt Whitley moves into the centres, allowing Shane Wright to return to the 17.

Wakefield are dealt a blow with Tom Johnstone missing out. The winger scored four tries against Bradford last time out and has had a brilliant start to the 2026 campaign.

In his place comes Jayden Myers, whilst the rest of the squad is unchanged from that win over the Bulls in round eight.

St Helens: Tristan Sailor, Kyle Feldt, Harry Robertson, Matt Whitley, Owen Dagnall, Jonny Lomax, Jackson Hastings, David Klemmer, Daryl Clark, Matty Lees, Shane Wright, Jake Davies, Joe Shorrocks

Bench: Alex Walmsley, George Delaney, George Whitby, Noah Stephens

Wakefield Trinity: Josh Rourke, Oliver Pratt, Cameron Scott, Corey Hall, Jayden Myers, Jake Trueman, Jack Sinfield, Mike McMeeken, Harvey Smith, Trey Lolesio, Seth Nikotemo, Matty Storton, Jay Pitts

Bench: Tyson Smoothy, Ky Rodwell, Caleb Hamlin-Uele, Caius Faatili
