St Helens suffer huge blow as they could face Leeds Rhinos without key duo but one star declared okay

Morgan Knowles misses out for St Helens with a "grumbling groin issue".

St Helens have booked their place in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals but it could come at a price as one of their star players was shown a red card on his first appearance back from a ban.

Saints demonstrated their class with five tries before a late Halifax Panthers try gave them a deserved try against the Super League and World Champions after a brilliant effort.

Then, in the last minute of the game with the score being done and dusted Morgan Knowles, on his return from a five game ban, went high, hard hut on Inman for a sending off. It was an unnecessary act but was a perfect example of how Knowles plays on the edge. The unnecessary nature of it given how late it was saw a pile in with tempers raised to end the game.

This could be a huge blow for St Helens as they prepare for a Grand Final rematch away at Leeds Rhinos next week.

The Saints already have key prop Matty Lees banned for the trip to Headingley and Morgan Knowles could now be set to join him.

Making matters worse, star halfback Jonny Lomax went off with a Head Injury Assessment.

However, he should be available to play after passing his HIA.

Fortunately, the Saints do have Agnatius Paasi, Curtis Sironen and Sione Mata’utia back in the fold.
