St Helens suffer huge blow ahead of Wigan Warriors clash

Last night one of the headlines after Wigan Warriors’ win over St Helens, one of the main headlines was the loss of Jai Field to a hamstring injury as he chased a kicked late on in the game.

After the game Wigan Warriors coach Matt Peet confirmed that it is very unlikely he will play against St Helens after a hamstring problem:

“I’m 99% sure he won’t be playing. We wouldn’t risk him even if it wasn’t that bad. We have options, these squads are put together for the season and I look forward to trying to work that out and not just against St Helens.”

Asked if French could move to the halves to replace him with Cade Cust injured, Peet said:

“I will leave him where he is if he keeps doing what he did so we might have to find a replacement in the halves.”

Field will get a scan this week to determine the extent of the problem but it looks like they will miss the huge derby with St Helens next week.

But St Helens star Alex Walmsley has also been taken off tonight with the same injury as Saints lead 12-0 at the break.

So, it appears that both sides will be missing a star player through a hamstring injury.
