St Helens’ Sione Mata’utia given RED CARD in controversial incident

St Helens’ Sione Mata’utia has been given a red card in a controversial incident.

Mata’utia hit Huddersfield Giants’ Danny Levi with a big tackle, but the Huddersfield hooker stayed down after the initial contact

The Saints man appeared to pick the Giants’ playmaker up off the floor with referee Chris Kendall sending Mata’utia straight off with Levi still on the deck.

There has been a zero tolerance for those kind of incidents, with Halifax Panthers’ Titus Gwaze getting an eight-match ban for doing just that against the Barrow Raiders.

And, it’s likely that the Disciplinary Match Review Panel will crack down hard on Mata’utia, particularly with his previous poor disciplinary record.

Rugby league is becoming a non contact sport, he did not pick the player up, he grabbed his shirt for feining injury trying to milk a penalty, the referee was appalling during the match and ruined a good game. The diciplinery panel need a good talking to as well, players should only be banned for serious offences, not a “high” tackle when the player is falling, rediculous officiating is spoiling a tough mans sport and ruining it for thise who pay good moneybto support and watch, when top players are not allowed to compete through a soft ban

      Agreed.
Levi was milking it, knowing it would be looked at by the video ref. If it wasn’t on TV, it wouldn’t of even merited a penalty.
Kendall had an appalling game. Whistle happy! Backend of the game, there was a potential ‘crusher’ tackle on Grace. Never looked at, even though the game was halted for Grace to receive treatment.
Then, when Price lost the ball over the line, Bennison picked the ball up, ready to go the length of the field. But no, Kendall blows the whistle. Should’ve let it play out, then go to the screen,
      Woefull!
