St Helens signings tipped to make ‘massive’ impact as youngster talks pre-season

St Helens' Harry Robertson

St Helens’ new recruits will have a huge role to play this season as the club push to improve on their disappointing 2024 Super League campaign. That’s the belief of Harry Robertson, who enjoyed something of a breakout year for the Saints last time around.

Robertson only made his debut under Paul Wellens in July, with the narrow defeat to bitter rivals Wigan Warriors providing his first taste of senior action after starting in the full-back role. However, he went on to make nine appearances over the course of the second half of the season with a series of notable performances coming along the way.

He grabbed his first Super League try in September in the 18-10 win over Huddersfield Giants and the 19-year-old will be looking to take the next step in 2025 and make even more of a mark at first-team level. Of course, he has competition for places in the senior ranks at the Totally Wicked Stadium and the addition of Tristan Sailor over the off-season only adds to that.

Sailor has been handed the number six shirt, suggesting he could be set to play in the halves next year, but he can also play at full-back, where Robertson made all his appearances last time around. As he continues his development, the teenager is taking the opportunity to learn from the Australian, though, and with Kyle Feldt and Lewis Murphy being brought in too, he’s expecting big things from Saints’ contingent of new recruits.

“They’ve definitely lifted the team a lot, you can see how good they are from the first five weeks,” Robertson told St Helens’ official channels. “They’re going to be massive for us this year I reckon.”

On his first pre-season as a first-team player, he added: “It’s been good, tough but good. I’m learning a lot, learning everyday and I’m enjoying it.

“I’m just happy to learn, I’m learning more and more off the new players and all the older players.

“We’ve got a big rookie group this year, I think there’s about 13 of us. It’s good to have all my mates there with me. We’re all competing for the same spots at the end of the day, some of them are my best mates but they’re competition at the same time.”
