How St Helens could line up in 2025 after Kyle Feldt signing

St Helens head coach Paul Wellens

St Helens have had one of their most difficult seasons of the Super League era.

Paul Wellens’ side are just one point ahead of the chasing pack in the play-off spots, and with just four games to go, they run the risk of dropping out of the top six altogether.

However, Wellens will be at the helm next year, and with the signing of Kyle Feldt, they may be a much-improved prospect in 2025.

Here’s how they could line up.

Full-back: Tristan Sailor

A top signing from Brisbane Broncos alongside that of assistant coach Lee Briers, Sailor will probably fit in at full-back.

He has been unlucky to be behind Reece Walsh in Brisbane but has shown himself to be very capable during Walsh’s absence due to injury.

The latest confirmed signing is that of Kyle Feldt, the North Queensland Cowboys’ top try-scorer of all time.

His move sees him play away from the Cowboys for the first time in his career, and he’ll surely be the man most likely to get the Saints back towards the top.

Retaining his place on the wing may be young Jon Bennison, whose emergence in 2021 saw him slot into one of the best Super League sides ever – all while still a teenager.

However, it’s Tee Ritson that’s been given the chances of late since joining from Barrow Raiders, where he scored an impressive 70 tries in 71 games.

Centres: Tom Opacic and Mark Percival

Tom Opacic has been heavily linked with Saints since his departure from Hull KR was confirmed.

With Konrad Hurrell and Waqa Blake potentially leaving, a centre will be needed, and he ticks all the boxes.

Mark Percival would probably keep his place too – his 11 years playing for the side have seen around 250 appearances and numerous trophies.

Halves: Jack Welsby and Jonny Lomax

Tristan Sailor’s signing may mean Welsby lines up in the halves – especially with Lewis Dodd heading to South Sydney.

However, he’ll surely also be utilised at full-back on occasion also – as probably the best defensive number one in Super League.

Although the spine hasn’t been great this year, you’d also expect Jonny Lomax to play in the halves too, being a key man in his 16 seasons playing for Saints.

Moses Mbye would likely be on the bench as an option to play in the halves, hooker, full-back or even in the centres.

Front row: Daryl Clark, Alex Walmsley, Matty Lees

A good signing despite his injuries, Daryl Clark stepped into a shirt that was long worn by James Roby and has looked solid at hooker.

Props Alex Walmsley and Matty Lees have also been part of a very solid pack that doesn’t seem to be the problem for St Helens at the moment – so they should also retain their places in the side.

However, George Delaney will undoubtedly be pushing for a starting place also.

Back row: James Bell, Curtis Sironen, Morgan Knowles

It should be, again, much the same in the back row.

Curtis Sironen and James Bell’s third seasons in the Red Vee have been solid – while Morgan Knowles is one of the best loose-forwards in the league.
