St Helens sign another NRL star for 2025

St Helens Paul Wellens

St Helens will lose Tommy Makinson to Catalans Dragons at the end of the season but the Red Vee have now signed veteran NRL winger Kyle Feldt to help replace their club legend.

Makinson will depart after 14 seasons and more than 330 games but the Red Vee have now confirmed the signing of North Queensland Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt who joins on a two-year deal.

It was confirmed yesterday that Feldt would be allowed to leave the Cowboys with the one-club man made available for a move after the club confirmed he would not be offered a new deal.

That will have alerted plenty of Super League sides but it appears that St Helens had already got a deal done with Paul Wellens’ side announcing this morning that Feldt will be a Saint for 2025 and 2026.

The 32-year-old is the Cowboys’ all-time top try scorer with 146 to his name, recently surpassing ex-Wigan man Matty Bowen’s record, and he’ll look to continue his try-scoring exploits in Super League from next year.

St Helens confirmed the signing of Feldt via a press release with the 32-year-old speaking on his excitement about the move.

Saints confirmed: “St.Helens R.F.C. is excited to announce the signing of clinical winger Kyle Feldt who will join the Club from NRL side North Queensland Cowboys from the 2025 season on a two-year deal!

“The prolific and clinical finisher has been a one-club man having made his debut with the Cowboys in 2013 where he has played all his senior club rugby.

“To date Feldt has played 213 times for North Queensland, scoring 146 tries, kicking 44 goals, for a total points record of 672 for the NRL side so far.”

In 2024, Feldt has scored 18 tries so still has plenty left in the tank to offer St Helens and he will bring those talents to England now.

Speaking on the deal, he said: “I can’t wait, it’s a big change for me and my family and as soon as we caught wind that St.Helens wanted me to come over and join, and after talking to Wello [Head Coach – Paul Wellens] and Rushy [CEO – Mike Rush], it’s set in that we’ve made the right decision and we picked the right club.

“This feels like the right choice and the right decision, not only for me but for my family. I know I’m coming to a great club with a very rich history of great players with great a work ethic as well. I’m eager to get over and meet the lads at the end of the year!”

Continuing, he added: “I’m excited to experience the UK fans, I know they really get right behind you, chant and sing songs when you’re going well. I’ve been a one-club man for so long and always want to give back to the fans and community I live in, and I’ve heard St. Helens is a close-knit community so I think I will fit in well.

“I’m coming over to add some more accolades to my career, to help out the boys in the Club, and I’m very eager to get silverware. When I was on the phone to Wello he reaffirmed how the Club has an expectation of winning, and that’s something that got me across the line.”
