St Helens recruit opens up on life after leaving Wigan Warriors

Jacob Douglas is making the most of his new environment having made the move across the divide from Wigan Warriors to St Helens.

The winger joined the Saints over the off-season after penning a three-year deal and he’ll be hoping to take the next step in his career and make his name in Super League. Douglas did get opportunities at Wigan, making eight appearances for the Cherry and Whites over the last two seasons.

That tally includes six run outs last season, with the winger touching down for a hat-trick in the May win over Salford Red Devils.

Ultimately, though, he made the difficult decision to leave the Brick Community Stadium and join the Saints. He has plenty of competition for places in Merseyside, with Kyle Feldt, Deon Cross, Lewis Murphy and Owen Dagnall among those competing for spots on the wing, while the likes of Nene Macdonald and Tristan Sailor can also play in the position.

As such, he knows he has a challenge on his hands to earn opportunities in the red vee, but he’s loving life as he strives to catch the eye of Paul Rowley.

“It’s refreshing, it’s nice to learn from new people, ask some new people and kind of get a new vision of how people play and how people train,” Douglas told St Helens’ official website. “It’s been really good and I’m really enjoying my time here.

“All the outside backs have been really good so far. It’s nice to learn off someone as experienced as Feldty and some of the younger lads are refreshing to be around.

“All the lads have been really good to me to be fair.”

Douglas is one of seven new signings made by St Helens ahead of the 2026 Super League season, with Macdonald, Joe Shorrocks, Jackson Hastings, David Klemmer, Jacob Host and Shane Wright all joining the club permanently.
