St Helens pencil in friendly as part of dual-reg agreement but it is not for their first team

St Helens’ reserve side will face Swinton Lions in a pre-season friendly at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday 22 January, 3pm kick off.

The trial game forms part of the recent announcement of our dual-registration agreement with the Championship club.

There is no designated section for Swinton fans with only the South stand open for this game showing the togetherness of the two clubs.

Swinton Lions CEO, Steve Wild said: “On behalf of the Lions I’d like to thank Mike Rush and everyone at Saints for so readily agreeing to a friendly at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

“The game will form an integral part of our preparations for the 2023 season and our aim to establish ourselves in the Championship. At Swinton we are looking forward to developing our DR agreement for the mutual benefit of both clubs, and we wish Saints every success in the coming season.”

St Helens first team are gearing up towards the World Club Challenge against Penrith Panthers on 18th February away in Australia.

This follows a warm up game against St George Illawarra Dragons after Mark Percival’s testimonial game at the end of this month.

The Saints are also chasing a record fifth consecutive Super League title in 2023.
