Ahead of the disciplinary verdict arriving later today, we have taken a look at which players could be on the naughty corner following their actions in Super League Round 16.
Last week, no players were handed bans, though seven players were charged, including Hull FC forward and Leeds Rhinos loanee Jeremiah Mata’utia, who copped a Grade B charge.
Whilst we hope that the same happens this week, in that no one is suspended, that might not be the case, and some key players coud be in some hot water with the Match Review Panel.
Jackson Hastings is arguably sweating the most, after he appeared to briefly touch Bradford’s Will Gardiner, who suffered a severe concussion and needed to be stretched off.
Whilst it was only slight contact, and it didn’t affect anything, the RFL have been very clear that players cannot touch others who are or may be injured.
It would be an incredibly harsh call to suspend him, but the governing body have set a precedent this season, with the likes of Semi Valemei and Lachie Miller being hit with suspensions for similar incidents.
Elsewhere, James Bentley and Franck Maria were both penalised for high contact in the Warrington-Catalans game on Thursday. Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet was put on report for his tackle on Arron Lindop that caused a significant knee injury to the Wire youngster.
In Friday’s game between Leeds and Hull KR, Mikolaj Oledzki was penalised for a professional foul, whilst Tevita Pangai Jr was put on report for hands in the face of Jake Connor.
James McDonnell tackled Mikey Lewis after the whistle for a 20m restart had been blown, whilst Lewis himself could be in trouble after a tip tackle on Harry Newman.
York’s Sam Wood was sent to the sin-bin for a crusher tackle on Jason Qareqare, and in the same game George Hirst hit Toa Mata’afa off the ball in the lead up to Oli Field’s try.
Saints’ Shane Wright was binned for a late hit on Chris Atkin, whilst teammate Alex Walmsley was put on report for a chicken-wing style tackle on Luke Hooley.
Huddersfield’s Fenton Rogers could be in trouble for a tackle that left Jay Pitts with an ankle injury. The Giants forward was the third man in to the contact, and targeted below the knee, causing injury.

Why do you keep going on about “players handed bans?”
NO players are handed bans by the disciplinary body. They are given graded charges, each of which carries a set number of points. The number of points accrued by a player is what earns them a ban, which is also pre- determined by the accrued points total. The only exception is the extremely serious, deferred chsrges, so stop saying players have been handed bans.
