St Helens have bolstered their squad ahead of this week’s fixture against Toulouse Olympique with the short-term signing of a Hull FC man.
Jed Cartwright will link up with Paul Rowley’s side on an initial loan deal, but the club have a view to make the move a permanent one for the remainder of the season.
Cartwright is out of contract at the season’s end, and is in search of a new opportunity away from the MKM Stadium, after it was confirmed by Richie Myler earlier in the season that the back rower would not be given a new deal.
The 29-year-old has had his fair share of injury worries since joining the Black and Whites in the middle of the 2024 season, and has only managed to make 23 appearances since his arrival.
The son of Catalans boss, John, Cartwright links up with former teammates Jacob Host and Daniel Suluka-Fifita, both of whom he played with at South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The move comes after further injury blows to Saints’ squad this week. The club have lost Alex Walmsley and George Delaney to HIAs, whilst Daryl Clark and David Klemmer are out for an extended period also.
They join the likes of Matty Lees, Curtis Sironen, Jake Wingfield and many more in the medical room at the Brewdog Stadium.

Commenting on his Super League switch, Cartwright said: “I’m really excited. Saints is one of the teams you always hear about back in Australia. It just shows how successful the club is, and I couldn’t be more excited or happy to be joining.
“I’ve played against St.Helens a couple of times and watched a lot of their games. The fans are really passionate and seem to live and breathe rugby. I’m ready to come over, give my all, and hopefully make a good impression.
“I want to bring impact and energy. I’m a very competitive person, and I pride myself on giving everything every week. That’s what I’ll be bringing with me.”
Boss Rowley added: “When we found out that Jed was available, it was a no-brainer for us. We’re obviously short on troops, so the opportunity to bring someone of Jed’s quality on board was too good to miss.
“We’re really appreciative of Hull FC’s cooperation and look forward to seeing Jed in a Saints shirt.”
