When St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf named his side’s 21-man squad for the clash against Castleford Tigers on Easter Monday, a few eyebrows were raised.
The Australian had rested a whole host of players as just Kyle Amor was the regular first-teamer among a youthful Saints team.
Being one of the elder statesmen in the dressing room, Amor revealed that the atmosphere was a lot quieter than normal but that it was a baptism of fire for the youngsters at a ground like the Jungle.
It was obviously a lot more quieter and a lot more people were worried about their own role,” Amor told The Last Tackle podcast.
“It was on Sky as well so if you’re ever going to make a debut on sky at Castleford, it’s one of the most difficult places to go even when you’ve got a full 17 never mind what we had out there.
“There was an awful lot going on, but I think everyone handled it well even the kids that came off the bench after building up all that energy.”
Amor also believes that Saints supporters should be excited about the future from that showing.
“It showed the St Helens fans what is coming down the line.”
