St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf speaks on Lachlan Coote following his move to Hull KR

Lachlan Coote will forever be remembered at St Helens for the way in which he picked up the pieces at fullback and helped steer the club to greatness.

Following the departure of Ben Barba after just one season at the end of 2018, Saints brought in Coote from the North Queensland Cowboys – and it was a match made in heaven.

Bringing in great stability at the back and a wicked left foot, the fullback won three Grand Finals at the Merseyside club before bowing out at the end of 2021.

Coote has since moved to Hull KR as a hugely influential figure and former head coach Kristian Woolf can’t wait to go up against him on Friday night for the first time.

“He’s remembered extremely fondly here, he’s a great bloke and was a great bloke in our squad for three years,” Woolf told Saints TV.

“He was a very big part of our success we’ve had over those past three years and he was a very big player for us.

“He’s remembered really well as a bloke and as a player and it adds to the excitement.

“I think our players will really enjoy the challenge of going up against him and playing against him and obviously knowing him really well.”

Woolf was also keen to stress that it will be something Coote will be excited about as well.

“I think it’s a challenge he will look forward to as well.

“We’ve changed a little bit but he knows our players and our general structures so it will be a challenge for both teams.”
