During the build-up to the Challenge Cup semi-final clash between Wigan Warriors and St Helens, a lot of the focus was on whether or not Jonny Lomax would play.
The halfback did end up playing, but with a heavily strapped up arm following a ruptured bicep as Saints went down 20-18 to a determined Wigan side.
Saints head coach Kristian Woolf spoke about his pride in Lomax for how he prepared and played the game.
“I’m extremely proud of Jonny, he was extremely brave out there,” Woolf said.
“He’s been really diligent, not many too many players could cop the injury the he has and put his hand up to play.
“He was a bit hard on himself after the game but we’re a better team with him in it.”
Woolf revealed that Lomax will still play in Saints’ next game on Thursday night.
“His character will get him through that injury and he will be our best player again next week.
“He’s ruptured his bicep, he can’t do anything else with it, but there’s no risk of any other injury.
“He will have to deal with it in different ways, but he will play next week.”
