St Helens friendly moved to new location due to frozen pitch

St Helens Reserves’ friendly against Swinton Lions this afternoon will now take place at Ruskin Sports Facility with the game kicking off slightly earlier at 2.30pm. This is due to a frozen pitch at the stadium.

This followed Bradford Bulls regrettably announcing that today’s pre-season clash with Huddersfield Giants has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at the FLAIR Stadium.

The match was originally scheduled to take place at our Odsal Stadium home, but was switched to Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium to give the fixture the best chance of taking place.

Despite the best efforts of the Dewsbury groundsmen, the pitch has been deemed unplayable, and the game will not be rearranged for a future date.

York RLFC also confirmed that today’s pre-season friendly against Batley Bulldogs at the LNER Community Stadium has been called off due to a frozen pitch.

The decision was taken following a pitch inspection alongside representatives from the Rugby Football League and the York Stadium Management Company and in agreement with Batley Bulldogs.

Despite the best efforts of the York Stadium Management Company and their ground staff, the pitch was deemed unsuitable to be played on at this time.

The Knights begin their 2023 Betfred Championship campaign against Widnes Vikings at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday 5th February (3pm).

This followed the cancellation of Doncaster vs Newcastle Thunder.

Doncaster confirmed that their pitch is one of those that have been bitten by the cold.

Their clash against Newcastle Thunder has been called off due to a pitch inspection,

They made the following statement:

“Our friendly against Newcastle Thunder has been called off on safety grounds following a pitch inspection at the Eco-Power Stadium.”
