St Helens duo and Castleford Tigers man given lengthy bans as Leeds Rhinos forward charged

Well, that’s another round of Super League completed as we head into the business end of the season.

Proceedings started on Friday night when St Helens cast aside the Huddersfield Giants with ease in a 25-0, but Saints’ bitter rivals Wigan Warriors took the limelight with a huge 60-0 hammering of Hull FC.

Wind the clock forward to Saturday and Castleford Tigers were irrepressible in the heat at the Jungle with an important 35-22 triumph over Warrington Wolves, with Leeds Rhinos going down in the south of France to Toulouse Olympique in what proved to have massive consequences at the bottom of the Super League table.

That’s because Wakefield Trinity’s defeat to Hull KR this afternoon consigned Trinity to the bottom of the league whilst Salford Red Devils inflicted a surprise 32-6 defeat over Catalans Dragons.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Jack Welsby (St Helens) – Grade A Late Hit on Passer – 0 Match Penalty Notice
Sione Mata’utia (St Helens) – Grade C Other Contrary Behaviour – Lifting injured player – 3 Match Penalty Notice
Morgan Knowles (St Helens) – Grade A Late Hit on Passer – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Sam Luckley (Salford) – Grade B Intentional Trip – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Sam Walters (Leeds) – Grade A High Tackle – Careless – ball carrier dips – 0 Match Penalty Notice
Cheyse Blair (Castleford) – Grade C Strikes with hand, arm or shoulder – reckless – 2 Match Penalty Notice

The following player was handed a caution:

Thomas Mikaele (Warrington) – Dangerous Contact – Drop Tackle

Mata’utia and Knowles will miss St Helens’ fixture against Wakefield Trinity on Sunday, with Salford’s Sam Luckley missing the Red Devils’ clash with Toulouse Olympique on Saturday.

Castleford will also be without Cheyse Blair for their visit to Hull FC on Friday night following his dangerous hit on Warrington’s Josh Thewlis on Saturday. Blair will also miss an extra game after the clash at Hull.
