Alex Walmsley is set to return for St Helens this week after being named in the club’s 21-man squad to face Catalans Dragons.
Walmsley has been missing for the past six weeks with a foot injury, but he has now recovered from that blow and could feature in the 17 for the first time since round three, which ironically came against Catalans.
Friday’s fixture, which now has a confirmed broadcast outlet, will be a re-match from that February Super League game. The Saints won heavily on that day in the south of France, a result Joel Tomkins’ men will be hoping to rectify in the knockout competition.
The chances of a Dragons upset look more likely this week than they did at the end of February, with St Helens’ mounting injury list limiting Paul Rowley’s squad selections. However, Walmsley’s inclusion will provide the Saints pack with some incredible strength and big minutes that they have been missing as of late.
A call has also been made on Jonny Lomax, who has been out since round two with a dislocated wrist. The half-back has also been deemed fit enough to make the preliminary squad, and could make his return this week against the Dragons.
In the backs, Kyle Feldt returns from suspension in what is another boost for Rowley’s Red Vee. He looks set to replace Owen Dagnall on the wing, with Lewis Murphy keeping his spot on the opposite flank.
St Helens 21-man squad:Â Kyle Feldt, Harry Robertson, Deon Cross, Tristan Sailor, Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, Daryl Clark, David Klemmer, George Delaney, Matt Whitley, George Whitby, Jake Wingfield, Lewis Murphy, Noah Stephens, Joe Shorrocks, Owen Dagnall, Jake Davies, Jackson Hastings, Tom Humphreys, Oscar Knox, Cole Marsh
