St Helens have confirmed their second NRL signing for the 2027 season and their third overall, with the Red Vee announcing Sean O’Sullivan as their new playmaker.
Signing a half was a big target for the club considering that Jonny Lomax has retired, Jackson Hastings is off-contract, and George Whitby is injured for the first half of the 2027 season.
Saints have moved quick and brought in O’Sullivan from the Canterbury Bulldogs, where the playmaker played in 2026 having been a member of the Dolphins’ squad for three years prior to that.
The 28-year-old was also previously at the Panthers where he played alongside Nathan Cleary when called upon, making 11 NRL appearances for the club. In total, he has played 66 NRL games but he will now head to Super League.
He joins Christian Tuipulotu in making the move over from the NRL, whilst St Helens have already added Solomona Faataape from Catalans Dragons but perhaps their most important signing is head coach Kevin Walters, whose influence O’Sullivan praised.

St Helens sign Sean O’Sullivan for 2027
Speaking on making the move to St Helens, O’Sullivan labelled the switch a ‘no-brainer’ before explaining how Walters’ appointment really helped sell the move.
He said: “With the players at Saints and Kevvie coming in, it made so much footy sense for me to join. I feel like my strengths can really help this group achieve.
“I’ve bumped into Kevvie over in Australia, and once he was announced as the coach, it showed the ambitions of the Club. All my talks with him have been super positive, and I know that he and I are going to get on really well, which is a big part of me wanting to come to St.Helens, because I think he can help my footy a lot.”
Addressing the fans, O’Sullivan said: “I’ve heard a lot about how passionate Saints fans are and have seen how successful the Club has been, and I am no different – I’m all in – I want to help bring silverware back and give my all for the jersey every week.
“I can’t wait to connect with the fans and buy into what they want their team to be.”
