Paul Wellens hopes to have both Konrad Hurrell and Harry Robertson back in contention for St Helens as early as next week.
The news comes as a boost for the Saints as they look to find some momentum in Super League under Wellens and the head coach has revealed that Kyle Feldt and Joe Batchelor won’t be too far behind the outside back duo.
It’s been a nightmare season for Hurrell, with the centre making just one appearance for the Saints and four for the club’s dual registration partners Halifax Panthers in the Championship. He picked up a hamstring problem while with the Panthers and that has seen him miss two months of action.
However, the hope is that he can return to full training with the St Helens squad next week alongside Harry Robertson, who has been out with a quad issue.
“He has a training session tomorrow and another one on Saturday and should he come through those well, as we expect him to, he will be in full training with the squad the week after,” Wellens said on Hurrell.
“It’s been rough on him and the back end of ’24 was really cruel on him with the operation, the neck surgery.
“You can’t underestimate how difficult that has been so obviously there’s been frustration on Konrad’s part that he’s not been able to quite get going at the start of 2025 but he’s making a recovery and we’re supporting him really well in that.
“Harry will hopefully be back into training like Konrad with the squad next week.”
St Helens injury latest with Kyle Feldt pushing to make return
Asked for a rundown of the club’s injury situation, Wellens revealed that Feldt and Batchelor are aiming to be involved against Salford Red Devils on June 15, while Jake Wingfield will be back against Hull KR next week if he is not deemed fit enough to play against Huddersfield Giants on Friday.
“Kyle Feldt will be another three to four weeks and obviously we’ve got a couple of games and a week off for the Challenge Cup and then Kyle may be back for the week after that, he has a chance,” Wellens added.
“Matt Whitley is just your standard HIA protocol, Joe Batchelor is looking at a similar time frame to Kyle Feldt. Jake Wingfield, we’re hoping this week but if not it should be almost certainly next week.”
