St Helens’ backroom staff member who tested positive for Covid-19 now returns negative test

The member of backroom staff at St Helens who earlier this week tested positive for Covid-19 has now returned a negative result from a subsequent test.

Saints were forced to postpone training on Tuesday following the positive result but did return on Wednesday, while their opponents from last weekend Castleford were allowed to continue training throughout the week.

The member of staff in question has been self-isolating since testing positive but must wait until the result of a third test is confirmed before he can return to work, while approval is also required from the RFL and Public Health England.

The result was the only one to come back positive as part of this week’s routine testing for Covid-19 across the 11 Super League clubs, match officials and other relevant staff, as well as a number of additional tests and retests.

The 562 negatives include all members of the Salford playing and coaching staff, for the third time since their last match against Hull FC on August 9, and all members of the Hull FC playing and coaching staff other than the 12 who tested positive last week.
