St Helens announce incredible Super League ticket sales for Wigan Warriors clash

It’s often been hailed as the ‘Original Derby’ and supporters of both St Helens and Wigan Warriors are making sure it lives up to that name.

With the game being broadcast live on Sky Sports tomorrow night, it could be forgiven for some fans to stay at home and save money, but not Saints fans who will be travelling in huge numbers.

Over 4,000 will be making the short trip for what promises to be one of the hardest fought derbies in recent years before the two sides as top spot still remains up for grabs.

Of course, the two sides met in the Challenge Cup semi-final where Wigan ran out winners, but it’s likely to be a different kettle of fish where the Super League is concerned with the play-offs firmly in sight.

Both clubs go into this one on the back of big wins, with Wigan putting Toulouse Olympique emphatically to the sword last weekend.

Saints, meanwhile, were big winners over Hull KR, running out 38-12 victors in a win that lifts them nearer to the League Leaders’ Shield.

This is how both sides’ 21-man squads look:

Wigan Warriors

1 Bevan French
2 Jake Bibby

6 Cade Cust

21 Kai Pearce-Paul
22 Joe Shorrocks
23 Jai Field
24 Abbas Miski
25 Sam Halsall
28 Brad O’Neill
36 Mike Cooper

St Helens

1 Jack Welsby

6 Jonny Lomax
8 Alex Walmsley
9 James Roby
10 Matty Lees
12 Joe Batchelor
13 Morgan Knowles
14 Joey Lussick
15 LMS
16 Curtis Sironen
17 Agnatius Paasi
19 Jake Wingfield
20 James Bell
21 Josh Simm
22 Ben Davies
23 Konrad Hurrell
24 Dan Norman

Saints will be without Will Hopoate who has a tight hamstring, with Kristian Woolf determined not to risk the Tongan international ahead of a tough run-in to the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Morgan Knowles and Curtis Sironen return, the latter following a two-match suspension for a high tackle. Mike Cooper returns in place of James McDonnell for Wigan in Matt Peet’s only change.
